The spirit of all the legends of Texas will be alive and well at the Texas Independence Shootout, a sporting clays competition to be held Friday, February 29th, 2008, in Austin, at the Texas Disposal Systems Exotic Game Ranch & Pavilion.
Shooters from around the Lone Star state are hereby invited to participate in a quest for the braggin’ rights to the mythical “Best in Texas” title, and certification as an official “Texas Sure Shot.” A flurry shoot will be available for an additional fee This event will salute and honor Texas Independence in many unique ways. The firing of ceremonial cannons will mark the beginning of the shootout, as the famous William B. Travis letter from the Alamo is read. After shooting, participants will enjoy music, and delicious Texas barbeque.
If your preference is socializin’ instead of shootin’, we have just the opportunity for you! While the music plays and the barbeque is being served, we’ll also host “The Texas Bull Shooters Gathering.” You and nine guests are invited to “Shoot the Bull,” one of the oldest and perhaps most celebrated Texas art forms. You and your 9 guests will eat, drink, pitch washers, and enjoy all the entertainment, and bull shoot with the best of ‘em. All participants will receive gift bags full of valuable prizes, and everyone will be eligible to win additional door prizes, including hunting gear, special firearms, weekend vacations, and many other exciting items. The winning team will receive Texas flags, framed with their certificates authenticating that they have flown over the State Capitol Building.
The event is rich in Texas tradition, chock-full of music, food and prizes, and is a memorable way to celebrate Texas Independence. Proceeds benefit the Texas Heritage Songwriters’ Association and their affiliated non-profit beneficiaries: The Center for Texas Music History and the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians. Entry fees, table reservations and other donations are tax-deductible.
Check back September 1st, 2008 for register information for the 2009 shootout.
